Mitochondrial DNA testing for ancestry is a variety of genetic testing which is used to find out more on the mummy’s side of the family as mitochondrial DNA is passed from the mummy to her kids.

Mitochondrial DNA testing is employed for a variety of reasons – the 1st is to build a direct family link on the mother’s side of the family, it could also be used in ancestry DNA testing to check the mummy’s ancestry or in forensic DNA testing. In the 1980’s Dr Mary Claire King also started using mitochondrial DNA testing to clear up cases where the folks of a kid are unknown.

She employed a section on the mitochondrial DNA that sundry significantly and so provided proof of who the mummy or gramps was. Thanks to the fact that mitochondrial DNA is passed without delay from ma to kid through the generations, motherly aunts and uncles should also contain mitochondrial DNA matching that of a kid with missing oldsters and so if the motherly gramps can’t be found it is feasible to try matching the kid with an aunt or uncle.
